IT'S AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH!

...and Discovery Toys, Inc. is taking action!

WORLD’S LARGEST PUZZLE FOR AUTISM AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Celebrities Against Autism, along with primary sponsors Discovery Toys and Flagstar Bank, has embarked on a mission to assemble the World’s Largest Puzzle to build global awareness and acceptance for children with autism. Everyone, from individuals to families to community groups to corporations, can participate in the record-breaking endeavor by purchasing puzzle pieces for a $1.00 donation per piece. As the donations are collected, the pieces will be added to the World’s Largest Puzzle, with over a million pieces, gradually revealing an original image that will keep everyone guessing until the very end. The funds raised will be used to generate media exposure for Autism and to support families in need with children with Autism.

We believe awareness, acceptance, and information help families and our society deal with this devastating disorder.”

Celebrities Against Autism was started by Valarie and Kevin McFarland as an idea to attract much needed autism awareness and acceptance. Their crusade began two years ago when they received the diagnosis that their beloved son Callahan has autism. Callahan is now four years old and receives more than 40 hours per week of one-on-one intensive early intervention therapy. Research shows that the earlier one-on-one therapy begins, the greatest chance children have to truly reach their full potential.

As the McFarlands searched for sources of support and networked with other families impacted by the neurological disorder, they discovered how difficult it was to both locate and afford quality treatment and how isolated families of children with autism can feel. They also learned that cases of autism are growing at a staggering rate, affecting 1 in 150 children today and particularly targeting boys, with 1 out of 94 boys being diagnosed.

With a network of contacts among a variety of celebrities, the McFarlands decided to enlist the support of well known individuals and groups to help gain exposure for their crusade. They realized, though, that they still needed a creative way to attract media attention. The puzzle piece is used extensively as a symbol throughout the autism community, inspiring the concept for building the World’s Largest Puzzle. The goals of the World's Largest Puzzle campaign are to generate world wide publicity for autism, raise funds to assist families and create additional advertising opportunities.

Campaign Overview
The campaign launches in April, National Autism Awareness month. Funds will be raised by selling official paper puzzle pieces for a $1.00 donation each. Paper puzzle pieces will be available to the public through select campaign sponsors, including Discovery Toys Educational Consultants and Flagstar Bank, and on the Celebrities Against Autism website. As the funds are delivered to Celebrities Against Autism, the matching number of pieces will be added to the World’s Largest Puzzle.

The puzzle will be assembled at a yet to be disclosed location in the Detroit area. The puzzle image has been designed to keep everyone guessing as the image is revealed. Everyone will be able to watch the puzzle being assembled on Celebritiesagainstautism.org. Discovery Toys is one of only four overall sponsors and the only children’s products company. Discovery Toys is also the only sponsor with both nationwide and continent-wide reach.

Discovery Toys Sponsorship
The McFarlands were first introduced to Discovery Toys through Cal’s therapists, who use a number of our products and have nothing but praise for their quality and effectiveness. They can attest first hand to the tremendous learning value of Discovery Toys products for children with Autism, with a number of DT toys now in their house. Once they decided they wanted to partner with a toy retail company to effectively reach families, it was a “no-brainer” for them to approach Discovery Toys. Says Val McFarland, “Discovery Toys is the perfect partner for this campaign. The idea of including a sponsor that offers high quality educational toys that have been well researched and with a mission of Playing with a Purpose just made sense.”

Paper puzzle pieces are being offered for a one dollar donation per piece. You can obtain puzzle pieces from Discovery Toys in sets of 25 for a one dollar donation per set (Item #8796), which is passed along to Celebrities Against Autism. 100% of the donations received by the Home Office will be distributed to Celebrities Against Autism on a regular basis.

As a primary sponsor, Discovery Toys will receive recognition in all communications and publicity opportunities for the campaign. The Discovery Toys logo is printed on over 1 million paper puzzle pieces. Discovery Toys is also featured as a sponsor on the Celebrities Against Autism website.

Hello, everyone!

How is the weather where you are this weekend? It is raining here...for "sunny" California! We are expecting storms through the week.

I don't know about you, but I cannot believe that January is almost over! Are the toys from the holidays put away at your house? I HAD them cleaned up once or twice, but they reappear without any warning - at ALL hours of the day!

The good thing about that is that they ARE continually showing up around here! Why do I say that is a good thing? I think that if the toys that your children got just a month ago or so are hiding in the closet or scattered underneath their beds already...it must not have engaged them too long! Do they even remember they had it?

I know kids are kids. My kids tend to have stuff EVERYWHERE, but what I do like to see is them engaging in their favorites and enjoying themselves for long periods of time. Do your children do that? What are their favorites?

When my son was younger and I started with Discovery Toys, Inc., I received Hammer Away with my start-up kit. My son is now 7 and my daughter is 3. It has moved to her room, but yesterday there it was on her floor and she was pounding the little colorful balls into the holes! It has seen many days of use. That's for sure! It can still take a beating and it doesn't at all look like it is wearing out!

This is the same for Castle Marbleworks. That has gone from my son's room to my daughter's, too! It is something she still plays with - and sometimes my son, too. He rather pull out Marbleworks Deluxe, though. He likes to build and play....still I have to say that many of the "old-time" (for ME) products from Discovery Toys, Inc. are the ones that kids still love just as much as the new!

HAPPY SEPTEMBER!

I'm sure just about everyone is back in school now. My son started on the 27th of August and is doing very well so far. He likes his teacher and he is going to a bigger school (2nd - 6th grade), so there are plenty of new friends to be made (for me, maybe, too)! I am looking forward to a great year!

I just can't believe it is already September and that the holidays are just a hop, skip and a jump away! Where did the year go?

Discovery Toys is gearing up to launch their Fall/Winter 2007 line along with their catalog. Every year they discontinue older items to make way for the new ones. I see some really great items they are going to be discontinuing and hope that you will take advantage of placing an order before you can no longer get them.

I am sad to see the TRY ANGLE go as well as THE WAY I FEEL book.

My daughter is 3 (as I've mentioned a zillion times before, I'm sure!) and she still LOVES to play with the TRY ANGLE. She has had it since she was 1 year old. She started out pushing and looking. Now she likes to count and tell me the names of the colors on the toy. It's very versatile.

THE WAY I FEEL is something that both of my children enjoy. They like to act out the feelings shown on each page. It's a great way of expression. It's also a good tool to use (as I've found) for them to let you know how they feel about certain things. You can play games with it and get to know your child even more!

Happy Weekend, Everyone!

I hope that everybody is doing fantastic today! The weather is warm and the kids are outside playing in the backyard. Hi, everyone!

I don't know about your end of the world, but over here...it is getting mighty toasty! The weather is heating up and it surely feels like Summer! Yeah!!

Hydroblast came back on the scene for a very short time. I think that as soon as I sent out an e-mail to everyone on my mailing list (because I was excited to see it back), it depleted! Such luck!

Not to worry! There are still plenty of great outside toys for everyone to enjoy this Summer! Take a peak over at the wonderful sales happening as well as items from the catalog!

I have been finding myself a tad tired lately during the week from work. Because I haven't had the energy to run around outside too much, the kids have been indoors during the late afternoon and evenings. They have been keeping themselves very busy running around. My son LOVES to set up Marbleworks in the hallway on the hardwood floor. He has come up with some great raceways! Maybe he's a future architect! :)

My daughter, Lena, just turned 3 last week (Happy Birthday, Baby Girl!). I bought her Pour Some More which is a pretend coffee pot. It comes with a creamer, 2 spoons, plates, and cups. You can even brew water! She is loving that! She likes to "make coffee" just like Mommy and Daddy! If you are interested in purchasing it, please let me know. Happy Sunday to you!

I want to introduce to you a terrific product that will soon be back at Discovery Toys! Every time (that I know of!) they have this product in their line, it sells out rather quickly! My son has one and he has always loved it! In fact, I may have to purchase another one because his little sister is now starting to play with it!

I am speaking of The Fire Hose Hero! It is a fabulous outdoor toy that allows the child to use their imagination and get wet (as well as get others wet, too!)! During the hot Summer months, it is really a lot of fun to have around! This year, they have added a fireman hat, so that is an additional bonus to an already outstanding product!

NIGHT, NIGHT BAILEY!

The product focus I chose this week is "Night, Night Bear" which is a cloth book that my daughter, Lena, just adores. Well, it may not put Lena to sleep, but it sure did my 6-year old son, Bailey!

Last night as we were going through Bear’s routine and Lena was having fun telling her own story, I look over and there was Bailey…fast asleep! He had been eagerly waiting his turn to tell his own version of "Night, Night Bear" (so I thought!), but…he ended up snoozin’ instead! Then again…I believe Lena ran through it herself a good 3-4 times before Bailey actually fell asleep.

Usually HE is the one reading to HER, so imagine how much of a big girl she felt thinking that she helped her big brother fall asleep!

MY PRODUCT FOCUS FOR THE WEEK!

As I go through the End of Season sale, I notice many favorites of my own on here. One of the ones that stand out is "Night, Night Bear". This book is GREAT! I have it for my 2-year old, Lena. We have had this book for quite awhile and she has "grown" into it. She has a fabulous time telling ME the story of Bear before he goes to bed. Bear goes through a routine each night and it really is a wonderful way to teach your child the routine for him/herself as well. I ask her questions and she responds by showing me. When she was younger, I would ask her to point out specifics in the book (colors, where certain items were, etc.) and she’d show me. Now, she TELLS me things! This book is truly one of those "grow with the child" items and can be used for a long time! In addition, it’s a great book to explore sensory sounds and textures.

The book is for 6 months and up. It retailed for $19.99 and it is now on sale for $9.99! It’s a terrific addition to bedtime stories! This is a huge favorite with my daughter! I may just pick up another before they disappear!

Well, here it is and here I am! Almost a whole year has gone by without any activity whatsoever on here! My sincere apologies as life had just taken over into a ton of different directions and I had no choice but to go with the flow! I’m sure many of you can relate how easily that can happen!
